using ChatGPT to create demo videos
Planning a video can be a lot of work if it’s not what you do every day.
What storytelling format works? What should be on screen? What’s the script? When do I use b-roll?
There are apps for recording a demo. Tella.tv is great. Arcade.software is also great.
But they don’t answer what to put in it.
Coming up with new ways to use ChatGPT is a new hobby of mine, so here’s one of my latest experiments.
Building a demo video.
Using Voice Mode, tell ChatGPT what you’re trying to accomplish. For example, I wanted a 1-minute demo of [insert_product_name] (learn about it at [your_domain]) that showcases [feature A] and [feature B]. This video is for [name your audience]. I want people who watch this video to [take an action].
Ask it to review your domain and suggest a storytelling framework you can use for a demo video. I got Problem-Agitate-Solve (PAS) and of course The Hero’s Journey.
Pick a storytelling framework and ask it to outline the video for you. Remind it that it should be 1 minute and it must end with a strong CTA.
Once you have an outline you like, ask for a draft script. Rework it either by talking at ChatGPT some more or editing it on a page.
Feed the final script back to ChatGPT, in the same chat, and ask it to provide you with a video production run sheet that includes estimated timing, the script, and on-screen visuals.
The result I’m getting is a ready-to-produce product demo. I can record the talking head part of the demo and with clear guidance in the run sheet we can edit in screenshots, etc. as needed.
The script will need your touch. Don’t let ChatGPT write everything for you. Your tone, your voice, and your point of view has to come through. So don’t just take the first draft script and run with it.
Happy filming,
Peter
